Canon EF 70-300 IS II nano USM vs. EF 70-300 L IS USM. I bought this nano USM variant (made march 2021) after 5 years of usage L version. As sharpness goes, I find nano USM lens to be better at a far focusing distance, though L lens seems to be sharper at close-up shots and portraits, L produces generally nicer, richer images, nano USM's ones

Weighing in at 720g, the 70-300mm DO is around 90g heavier than the standard 70-300mm lens but is positively lightweight when compared to the new 70-300mm L lens which comes in at a roly poly 1050g. The optical system and controls are the same as those of the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM. For environmental protection, only lead-free glass lens elements are used. The optical system, construction, and exterior are the same as the EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III USM’s. The difference is that it uses a DC motor instead of a USM to drive the AF."
However, I did notice some limitations when shooting in low-light conditions. The maximum aperture of f/4-5.6 restricts the lens's performance in dimly lit environments, leading to potential noise and reduced sharpness. Overall, the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens is a valuable addition to my photography gear.
